If you practice this Japanese art of healing, it would be best to have your own reiki table to maximize treatment benefits.

Reiki is a healing method to reduce stress and induce relaxation by "laying on hands." Originating from Japan, it is mainly used to improve the flow of energy in a person’s body.

The Reiki Treatment

Reiki treatment does not work the same way as a shiatsu massage, but it does require the client to lie in a relaxed position as the reiki master removes energy blocks and sends positive energy to the areas of the body which need it most. Since even the surface the person is lying on may have some bearing on the treatment, you should consider getting your own reiki table if this is something you intend to practice on a regular basis.

Reiki tables may be made of either wood or metal, and are sufficiently padded to ensure comfort. Both wood and metal have their own beneficial properties and help energy circulate in different ways. Wood is known for its ability to absorb energy while metal allows the current to flow more vigorously.

By having your own reiki table, you will be able to use either of these properties to your advantage, depending on what your objectives are. This is something you would not be able to maximize if you were to use a regular massage table or one made from synthetic material.

What to Consider Before Buying a Reiki Table

When deciding on which reiki table to buy, you should first determine your purpose. Do you intend to become a full-time practitioner, or are you using it for your own treatment? Will you be using it in just one location, or are you planning to take it with you in your travels?

Once you know your purpose, you will be able to decide on whether to get a portable table or not. Portable reiki tables tend to be a bit pricier, so if you intend to stay in one location, you would do well to avoid the extra cost.

The next thing you will want to decide on is the material from which your reiki table is made. As mentioned earlier, metal and wood offer slightly differing benefits. Wood is supposed to allow a gentler flow of energy, but since it also absorbs some of the energy of the person lying on it, it has to be “cleared” after every usage. Clearing should not take so much time and may be done by smudging with some water and sea salt. However, it can also be accomplished by something as simple as visualization or through reiki itself. However, if you will use your table often and don’t want to go through all the trouble of clearing each time, you may want to opt for metal.

The amount of padding also makes a difference, and is another thing to consider when buying a reiki table. If you would like to buy your own, it means that you must have undergone the process at least once before. Take your own experience into consideration and go for what makes you most comfortable.

Lastly, remember that just because you want to be practical does not mean that you can’t go for beauty as well. There are many reiki tables in the market that have lovely designs. If you are buying for personal use, then you might as well choose one which you also find aesthetically pleasing. If it seems to call out to you, then it is probably the reiki table you should get.

Practice Reiki Regularly for Stress Reduction

Reiki can certainly be a great source of relaxation. This is something quite priceless in this day and age, so if you have found your initial experiences with reiki to be beneficial, then you should do it on a regular basis.

Eventually, all the positive energy coursing through your system may bring about the urge to share the experience with others and become a reiki master yourself. When you do, you may find that investing in your own reiki table is one of the best decisions you could make.
